Generally, Libya is a country that may not be familiar to some people. When you want to export goods to Libya, here are some restrictions and regulations you should know.
First of all, shipping to Libya does not require an import license. Even so, there are certain products’ duty rates depending on gross weight. Other factors like the cost, insurance, and CIF value of the products, can determine the Ad Valorem duties.
Then, Libya has restrictions on importing some products. They include food products, gold, insecticides, medicines, petroleum products, and tobacco.
A part of the products is the prohibition of imports in Libya. They are alcoholic drinks, luxury cars, used cars, second-hand equipment and machinery. Please note that all imports from Israel are not available.
You should add a packing list to the commercial invoice if there are more than two cargo units. The packing list is to classify the contents for each package, including its gross weight, net weight, marks, and numbers.
Then you will have to prepare the certificate of origin, which every shipment will need. The certificate must contain the following content.
1. The country of origin
2. The manufacturer of the original country
3. The original percentage from another country
4. The assurance that the goods are entrusted to the Libyan company
To ensure safe and efficient shipping, you must check the available ports in Libya. Due to COVID-19, some ports are temporarily closed. At the same time, you should talk to your clients to acquire more useful information.
